Immersive 3D Virtual Video

Overview

Experimental Commercial & Production Design

A promotional video project created for the 3M Industrial Grinder
Contest, exploring how industrial products can be introduced through unconventional storytelling and immersive visual direction.

Through storyboard development, spatial rendering, green screen compositing, and motion-based visual storytelling, the project experimented with how commercial advertising can move beyond product explanation and become a more narrative-driven and visually immersive experience.

Design Concept
The project focused on transforming familiar domestic environments into surreal and theatrical spaces. Instead of presenting the grinder as a purely industrial object, the video explored how the product could exist within playful and unexpected everyday situations.

The project combined production design, 3D visualization, compositing, and live-action filming to transform familiar everyday spaces into surreal and unexpected cinematic environments. Inspired by David Hockney’s colour palette and theatrical spatial compositions, the work focused on creating playful contrasts between ordinary domestic settings and industrial tools.

Compositing
Storyboards were developed to structure the rhythm, movement, and humour of the commercial. The narrative intentionally placed industrial tools within highly stylized domestic scenes to create visual contrast and curiosity.

The project combined live-action filming with green screen compositing techniques. Actors were integrated into digitally rendered spaces to blur the boundary between physical performance and virtual environments.

Camera composition, costume styling, and object placement were carefully directed to create a visually cohesive and immersive commercial experience.
