Marche (2022)
Universal Letter
Overview
<Marche>
is a typography project inspired by the movements and flow
of ballet. The name comes from the French word marche, meaning “movement,” and the project translates the rhythm, posture, and directionality of dance into letterforms.
Design Concept
The letterforms were developed through analysis of the Russian Vaganova ballet system, focusing on the body’s directional movements and continuous lines.
By tracing the trajectories of dancers’ motions, each alphabet was reconstructed as a flowing visual gesture.
Each character was designed from motion-based structures, transforming dance gestures into abstract typographic forms. When combined into words, the letters create the impression of dancers performing together on stage.
Visual Identity
The project expands beyond typography into poster and visual identity design, capturing the atmosphere of ballet performances through light, motion, and spatial composition.
